Happy New Year 2024!

Hi everyone!  I have officially abandoned this blog for over 3 years.  I am not sure what are the plans for the future, but at the point of time, there are no plans to continue writing. Been very busy with life, busy with my daughter, busy with her ongoing classes. But I just want to share something to anyone who happens to read this today. My daughter is now 7 going to 8 years old.  There are certain things I wished I have done a bit differently. I wish I have gotten her a sibling.  If you read this blog, you would know I have struggled to conceive.  It took me 2 years to conceive my daughter after a miscarriage and by the time I gave birth, I was 37 years old, considered old.  But I should have immediately tried for another child, but I didn't because I was quite traumatized by the whole birth experience.  I had natural birth, but my cervix didn't opened.  So I struggled for 36 hours before my daughter came out.  I was induced, took e...

Why is it so difficult to decide on which mobile phone to buy?

Hello readers!  I have been taking a super long break and this is the first post in 2021 and nothing related to children or mothers or schooling or anything related to them. This post is created just for 1 reason:  for mobile phone developers to read and take note.  Just in case they see this post. It's 2021.  I have been using a Huawei Nova 2 Plus phone since 2017.  Phone is now 4 years old going to 5.  It's still working fine but it's aging.  It's slow and laggy especially if I want to open certain apps.  Fingerprint sensor isn't as quick as before.  Screen is not at its best now during scrolling.  Sometimes can jam on 1 page.  Battery life is diminishing despite just changing a new battery last year. But overall, this phone has served me well and I can honestly say this, I love Huawei phones.  And I swore that I would not touch another brand phone anymore when I started owning one. I was a Samsung and Xiaomi user before this...

Studying at Home

How's everyone doing?  In difficult times like now?  Hope everyone is staying safe, practising social distancing and all that. My girl went to kindy for the first half of 2020 only.  Online classes didn't really work for her as I ended up doing a huge chunk of work.  Her kindy is not technologically update and her teachers were sending 3-5 minutes of video via WhatsApp.  In the end, I thought it's better not to pay the kindy fees and just let her stay at home while I continue with some online apps. There are quite a few of pages that are free due to Covid.  I started my little girl with Reading Eggs and tried out their 30 days free trial and my girl loved it!  In fact, she learned so much more via Reading Eggs than her own kindy. Straight away signed up for a year.  Only about RM250+ for a year.  Much worthy than kindy. The app is not perfect.  Sometimes hang, sometimes lag.  But the materials is very comprehensive.  She learn...

Selfish

Today I felt like sharing this.  I found out/realized/enlightened, whatever you want to call it, that everyone (can I generalise), everyone in the corporate world is a selfish person.   If you say, no I am doing things for the company, I am not selfish.  Yes you are.  You are only doing what you are paid for.  You won't go the extra mile to help others. And whatever bosses ask you to do, it is for their own benefit.  To prepare for their meeting.  To come out with projections for their own discussion.  You are just a slave to your boss.  Nothing more, nothing less. Perhaps when the company offer you some benefits, like medical insurance, dental, spectacles allowance, you will like the company care for you.  But in actual truth, if you are sick with a disease and can no longer function the way you did before, the company would kick you out no time.  Selfish?  Yes.  As they don't want to keep paying for a s...

PPUM Pediatrics Emergency Department

Being a mom proves to be the hardest job in the world.  Accidents do happen but when they actually happened, most people will panic and unsure what to do.  And when it involves kids, and being the mother of the only child, with no prior emergency experience, this is a traumatizing and frightening episode and a lesson for me to learn. My 3.5 years old girl was being very curious and naughty that fateful day.  She stood on the chair and play with my massage oil and containers and broke one of the small glass cups and when she panicked she came down from the chair and stepped on the broken glass. She was bleeding a lot and crying.  Since this happened at about 10.30pm, my first response was to drive her to a 24-hour clinic.  So, we went to the 24-hour Mediviron clinic but was turned away by the nurses, stating that her case is very serious and need to be referred to a hospital instead. My mind at that time was running at full speed.  I wasn't sure...

The Big Kindy Search Continues

Since my last The Big Kindy Search post , I have been looking around for kindies and been visiting some.  Here's my feel about them all. 1) Tadika Diyana Read good reviews about this and decided to check them out, though out of our way and far from home.  I love how the price is quite ok but still a bit on the high side (you can check it out at their website). I visited the premise and I really love how it is run like a mini primary school.  It's huge, with its own hall, field and canteen, although downsize version and it's just like a school.  Not like a bungalow with rooms as classroom.   However, I have decided not to send my girl because they will be moving to Sungai Penchala (further up from TTDI, near to the Penchala Link), which will be much further from our home.  Though they do have transporters, but I feel very wary about sending my 4 year old (next year) to a transporter. What I like about Tadika Diyana is they have 2 medi...

Review: The Lion King (2019)

So, we decided to spend my birthday watching The Lion King with other mummies and their kids.  It was fun and we really enjoyed the day out.  But the movie has a mixed review.  Yup, I read the reviews before going and it was lukewarm.  And now that I have watched it, I can totally understand that lukewarm feeling. Let me just summarized it.  It was like watching National Geographic. The songs are still great.  But I totally cannot comment on the acting because they are all CGI-created and you can't expect real animals to have emotions right?  Like smiling, crying, laughing, anger?  So, yeah, that sums up the whole movie.  Cinematography was great too. The animals were talking but they have no emotions.  Nothing in their eyes.   Half way through the movie, my girl got a bit bored and kept asking me if the movie is over.  Well, I am not sure if they can make it better but the colour of the lions and the colo...

Nostalgia

No, I am not pregnant.  Was kinda regretting not having a second child, but I think we are better this way.  Though many are encouraging me to try another one, but pregnancy at 4.0 is not going to be easy. Now that I am not pregnant, I would like reminisce the time when I was pregnant.  So many taboos I have broken and so on. Just now, I read a sad news about a soon-to-be mother, who listened to this group of mothers on FB about not to induce the baby, and her baby died at 45 weeks.  So, please, please, please, do not listen to the mothers.  Follow your heart, if you feel something is not right, please go to the hospital right away.  Stop asking for advice on FB.  None of us are experts and they are only advising you based on their own experience.  Every one is different.  Every pregnancy is different.  Every labour is different. OK, back to my pregnancy 3 years back.   Travelling Q1:  Can pregnant mothe...

Disney Renaissance Era

Disney Renaissance Era was at its peak during my childhood.  So I got to watch all the movies then, started with The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, The Lion King, Pocahontas, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Hercules and Mulan.  Except for Tarzan. Here's my honest review about them.   The Little Mermaid I was in my primary school when I first watched it.  While I really love Prince Eric, I felt Ariel was a bit of a fool.  Imagine I was 10 at that time and I felt that.  I love the songs though, all of them were very nice, especially 'Under the Sea' and 'Kiss the Girl' and 'Part of Your World'.   When Ariel lost her voice, I was so frustrated at how silly she could be, to give up her voice so that she can have legs to meet with Prince Eric.  I mean, come on.  And the whole process of trying to get Prince Eric to kiss her without telling him who she was because she can't talk or sing is a bit frustrating. ...

Review: Aladdin - 2019

During the Raya break, took my little girl to watch Aladdin.  We enjoyed it thoroughly and she watches it immensely only at the singing parts and started walking around during the talking parts. I have watched the 1994 version before and I find the real life version very similar to the 1994 cartoon version.  The songs were build up with a bit more modern tune compared to the classic ones, with a bit of rap here and there and some EDM (Electronic Dance Music) here and there.  I have been binge-ing on the soundtrack before the movie, both versions and found that they added more electric guitar, more tabla (Indian classical drums) and tweak a bit to sound more Arabic like to it compared to the classical version. Character wise, I really love Will Smith's portrayal of the Genie.  Although no one can ever beat the Robin Williams's version in the original version, but Will Smith gave another portrayal, which is quite true to the original version and yet his own pe...

About the infamous affair

So, the latest news was the wife have forgiven the husband.  It was announced on Instagram.  Those who are aware of this, would know who I am talking about.  While it has nothing to do with me, neither a fan of any of those involved,  I feel the need to say this from my heart. To the wife, the purportedly victim in this whole incident. I know you have forgiven him and you did it based on your religion.  But I hope you know that no matter how religious a person, if he wants to cheat, he would not think of his religion at all. While he tried to hide his actions, he did daringly do it in a public transport.  Was he thinking of you at that time?  Was he even thinking of his religion?  No, I don't think so.  Even if there wasn't a camera in the taxi/Uber/Grab, the driver is a human right?  And the driver can report this to media right?  But your husband never thought about the consequences at all when he decided to openly ki...

The ugly side of the corporate world

I don't know why last year around this time, I was faced with some conflict with some people and was crying my eyes out for few days, mind you.  And this year, the same thing happened but with different group of people. In summary, what happened was I was overlooked for a promotion.  I would be lying if I said I wasn't expecting it.  I was.  And I hope there will be a big jump in my salary.  But no. In detail, the secrets of the underlying decision of who to be promoted was so ugly.  It was disgusting.  A person is not promoted based on his/her merits or contributions to the company or performance at work.  KPI was just a show.  A person was promoted because the boss like him/her.   Fine.  It's not like I didn't know the ugly side of this.  I have seen enough TV dramas to understand.  But to happen to me, I really didn't know how to face it or react to it. I was frustrated, angry and disgusted.  ...

Happy April's Fool Day!

Hello!  I haven't written since January 2019.  Lots had happened, mostly exciting.  Because of that 1 week holiday that I took to go China with the family, there was so much of backlog to do till today.   Today's post is all about my inner being, what's in my heart.   Past few days, I was feeling a bit down.  Got my letter of increment and found that the increase was quite disappointing.  Not that it was different from other years.  It has always been 5%.  But somehow, this year, I felt different. Since January, I feel my pay is way below what I deserved.  The company had refused to promote us simply because there are too many managers at the moment and promoting me means they have to promote the others same level as me.  My last promotion was in 2012.  So working for 7 years and no promotion since then. But, my job scope is the work of a manager.  I mean, who else can review the work of another ...
