So, we decided to spend my birthday watching The Lion King with other mummies and their kids.  It was fun and we really enjoyed the day out.  But the movie has a mixed review.  Yup, I read the reviews before going and it was lukewarm.  And now that I have watched it, I can totally understand that lukewarm feeling. Let me just summarized it.  It was like watching National Geographic. The songs are still great.  But I totally cannot comment on the acting because they are all CGI-created and you can't expect real animals to have emotions right?  Like smiling, crying, laughing, anger?  So, yeah, that sums up the whole movie.  Cinematography was great too. Disney Renaissance Era was at its peak during my childhood.  So I got to watch all the movies then, started with The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, The Lion King, Pocahontas, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Hercules and Mulan.  Except for Tarzan. Here's my honest review about them.   The Little Mermaid I was in my primary school when I first watched it.  While I really love Prince Eric, I felt Ariel was a bit of a fool.  Imagine I was 10 at that time and I felt that.  I love the songs though, all of them were very nice, especially 'Under the Sea' and 'Kiss the Girl' and 'Part of Your World'.   When Ariel lost her voice, I was so frustrated at how silly she could be, to give up her voice so that she can have legs to meet with Prince Eric.  I mean, come on.  And the whole process of trying to get Prince Eric to kiss her without telling him who she was because she can't talk or sing is a bit frustrating. ...

During the Raya break, took my little girl to watch Aladdin.  We enjoyed it thoroughly and she watches it immensely only at the singing parts and started walking around during the talking parts. I have watched the 1994 version before and I find the real life version very similar to the 1994 cartoon version.  The songs were build up with a bit more modern tune compared to the classic ones, with a bit of rap here and there and some EDM (Electronic Dance Music) here and there.  I have been binge-ing on the soundtrack before the movie, both versions and found that they added more electric guitar, more tabla (Indian classical drums) and tweak a bit to sound more Arabic like to it compared to the classical version. Updated!  After watching the first Mary Poppins 1964 Happy New Year everyone!  We went to watch a movie yesterday and it was my girl's first cinema experience.  So how was Mary Poppins Returns?  Here's my take on it. Firstly, I haven't watch the original Mary Poppins.  Somehow, I wasn't up to watching it and I am not sure why.  I mean I have watched Julie Andrews's movies before, like The Sound of Music but just don't know why I never get to watch Mary Poppins.  But having said that, I did listen to their music and I like them. Now for Mary Poppins Returns, I really like the cinematography.  Compare to the 1964 one, the 2018 one is of course 100% more impressive, especially the part where they were in the cartoon land.   As for the story line, I feel it is a little weak.  But then again, I can't compare it to the 1964 version since I haven't watch it yet.  Spoiler alert:  Like I don't understand the part tha...

Alas, the drama ended with tears and heartache.  I must say, this is one heck of a drama.  The writer and director duo is the greatest combination ever.  First it was Descendants of the Sun (DotS), then Goblin and now this.  All are superb and the best. With DotS, I found many inconsistencies with the show.  Like how can the main lead kept on surviving is beyond me.  It wasn't realistic at all.  But it makes my heart flutters a lot. With Goblin, I fell in love with the bromance and the mystical story line.  Though I felt really uncomfortable between the male and female lead's romance due to their huge age difference and their lack of chemistry, I thoroughly enjoyed the show.  I wasn't in for their romance, but more for the bromance and the sword and the ghost who went for them. Pretty Noona Buys Me Food or Something In The Rain made me swooned like a teenager again.  I can't believe I am smiling throughout Episode 3.  Commuters of the LRT might think I am insane. I was hooked.   I have always enjoyed Journey To The West by TVB, especially the first one where Dicky Cheung was the Monkey King.   The first Journey To The West movie I watched was the one acted by Stephen Chow.  It was soooo good!  The sequel was also amazing!  I craved for more actually. The next one was a movie directed by Stephen Chow.  It was quite nice but something was lacking.  Maybe because Stephen Chow was not in it?   The Chinese version of Journey To The West has always followed closely to the original story.  I mean the traditional setting, the relationship between Monk Xuanzang, his first disciple, Sun Wukong, second disciple, Zhu Baijie and third disciple, Sha Wujing.  And the story is mainly about how the 4 of them encountered the demons and monsters along the way. This has been my latest addiction.  I know some have commented that the jokes were too gross and all that.  If you love Stephen Chow and all his movies, you will know that Woohoo Waikiki is a copycat of all his slapsticks.  Stephen Chow was the original and the one and only who can act out the comedy so grossly but in a funny way.  Just to name a few.  Say the nose digging part, the swallowing of the mucous, the toilet jokes and so on.   Younger people, born in the 2000s probably don't know about him.  He was so famous in the late 90s and early 00s.  Even now, although he doesn't act anymore, his movies directed and produced by him still have his jokes.  Though when someone else said or do the same thing as he did in his movie, the expression and the sound is just not the same.  It's his tone, his facial expression, his overall body language, so far none of the comedians can act as well as him.  Yes, I am bias. I didn't think this K-drama deserve a post on its own, but the ending definitely raise my thoughts for discussion.   Warning: This post contains spoiler. Why on earth MSH became an immortal?  I agreed with one of the netizens who commented that JHR/Boon-yi must be such a witch that all her curses/wish became true.  And Sharon who is all the while the antagonist is actually the main character and the Black Knight of the drama.  I really do not understand the direction of this drama.   First, we were led on and told that the 2 ladies became immortal because of the curse of Boon-yi and because they have sinned.  OK, we got it, so they were punished to be immortal and the only way to break the curse is for MSH and JHR to be together.  We kept on getting reminded about this for 18 episodes.   Then we saw that if the 2 immortals does anything to break MSH and JHR to be together, they get painful tattoos on their bodies, a...

Recently I went to watch Coco the Movie with my colleagues.  I was tempted to bring my girl along, but after watching it, I think it won't be a good idea. If you want to know the synopsis, read Wikipedia .  The main protagonist is a 12 year old boy by the name of Miguel.  Coco is his great-grandmother.  They are a Hispanic community and celebrates the Day of the Dead.  The story is about family love. I won't talk about the story line here since you can read tonnes of reviews on this movie.  But I will share about the animations.  They are so beautiful and the colours were amazing!  I am not a hi-tech person here and I don't know how to compare with other animations (not that I have watch many), but apparently they used state-of-the-art technology to create and many hours of manpower was spent to make it come life.   As for the story line, I like the movie.  It has a blend of comedy, drama, horror (if you view skeletons ...

This is just for fun since I watched a lot of old movies on YouTube. Disclaimer: Every review is based on the reviewer's personal watching experience.  I for one, doesn't like horror, thriller, sad movies.  Much preferred comedy, romantic comedy and anything comedy in it.  So, if a movie that I watched is not a comedy, then my review is probably bias.  Then again, this is not really a review, but merely a simple post. True Legend is a martial art movie directed by Yuen Woo Ping.  This guy himself is a legend in the kungfu world.  I am not truly a fan of kungfu movies, but it's much better than senseless fighting.  Kungfu movies always fight with a clear intention.
