Year 2017 in review

Year 2017 has been a so-so year for me.  I hardly could remember the good things that happened but the bad things were so memorable.  This year, I had all the bad luck ever.  It is just not a good year for me.  So, I am hoping year 2018 will be better. The Bad 1. I slipped and fell and hit my coccyx badly while walking to the parking lot to get my car.  It was so painful that I drove in the rain groaning in pain. 2. Because of the fall, I went to my panel clinic the next morning because it was getting more painful.  I got 2 days MC for that.  But as I was on my way home, a random car just came and knocked the front of my car, while my car was stationary.  The other driver kept on insisting it was my fault and refused to give me his name, phone number or IC.   3. And because of the fall, I signed up for a chinese physiotherapy and had to pay about RM800+ for 7 sessions but only did 4 sessions and the physiotherapist complet...

Review : Sekinchan 2017

Image
On Christmas day, we decided to take a spontaneous trip to Sekinchan.  We have been living in Selangor all our lives, but never really explore that far part of Selangor. The night before, on Christmas eve, we had attended an event and only slept at 1am.  Automatically woke up at 7am and then decided to go ahead with the Sekinchan trip.  I drove, so can you imagine how exhausted I was.  But since the family wanted to go, I thought why not.  It's not easy to have a time like this together. I didn't take much photos, because I forgot.  But hey, you can find this photos anyway.  Sekinchan is just a very small fishing/paddy town. It took us about 1 hour and 15 minutes from Petaling Jaya to Sekinchan.  I have been to Kuala Selangor before and I didn't know it is just further up from there.  I had always thought Sekinchan is somewhere near Morib since it's a seaside.  The drive was very easy and smooth on the LATAR highway, which i...

Review : Genting Highlands 2017

Image
Just came back from a super busy long weekend.  Supposed to go and enjoy or rest, but I was running about so much that I am super exhausted.  It has been a very eventful long Christmas weekend. My family went up to Genting Highlands on 21-22 Dec 2017.  That's a Thursday and Friday.  We got free rooms at First World Hotel, so thought why not check it out.  It's been ages since I went anyway and this is the first time for my girl to go. We boarded a bus from 1 Utama and arrived at the Awana Skyway Station which is just next to the Genting Highlands Premium Outlets.  We took the cable car up and arrived at Sky Avenue. First thing that attracted us was the big LED screens which takes up 4 floors.  This is where the light and sound show is.  But when we arrived, we missed the timing, so didn't see any of it.  But don't worry, they have one every hour and every half hour, the show will be different.  I only managed to catc...

Tried and tested cooking keto : Spinach and onion coconut milk soup

Image
This doesn't look very appetizing but believe me, this is super delicious!  It's not that difficult to make too.  Saw a few recipes online about this, but some not so keto friendly.  So, made some changes to the ingredients and voila! Ingredients: A bunch of English Spinach leaves - I bought a bunch of spinach and pluck out the leaves. 1 yellow onion, roughly chopped - Yellow onions are sweeter so, if on keto diet, then don't put too much. 1/2 cup of coconut milk 1 cup of chicken stock Coconut or olive oil for cooking Salt for taste Method: 1. Put some oil into a big pot.  Stir-fry the onions until they caramelized.  If onions are raw, it will affect the taste of the soup.  If onions are caramelized, the soup will be sweeter. 2. Add chicken stock and spinach and cook until the spinach is thoroughly cooked. 3. If you have a hand blender, switch off the fire and then blend the onions and spinach leaves until fine.  If you don't have a h...

Review : Coco the Movie

Recently I went to watch Coco the Movie with my colleagues.  I was tempted to bring my girl along, but after watching it, I think it won't be a good idea. If you want to know the synopsis, read Wikipedia .  The main protagonist is a 12 year old boy by the name of Miguel.  Coco is his great-grandmother.  They are a Hispanic community and celebrates the Day of the Dead.  The story is about family love. I won't talk about the story line here since you can read tonnes of reviews on this movie.  But I will share about the animations.  They are so beautiful and the colours were amazing!  I am not a hi-tech person here and I don't know how to compare with other animations (not that I have watch many), but apparently they used state-of-the-art technology to create and many hours of manpower was spent to make it come life.   As for the story line, I like the movie.  It has a blend of comedy, drama, horror (if you view skeletons ...

Tried and tested cooking keto : Spare Ribs Pork Curry

Image
I woke up at 5am automatically today.  So, I decided to do a nice and long morning meditation.  After that it was almost 6am and I couldn't get back to sleep.  So I thought, why not I cook something easy for my keto lunch and dinner?  So I did just that and I woke up before everyone else and started defrosting, cutting and cooking.  My mom was surprised to see me so hard at work. I adapted the recipe from My Natural Family .  However, since I did this on a whim, I couldn't find any chicken thighs in the fridge, instead I found pork spare ribs.  So I thought, hmm, maybe I can substitute chicken with pork instead?  I was getting a little tired of chicken anyway but pork means my mom won't eat since she is off-pork for many years now.   I quickly defrosted the spare ribs and cut whatever vegetables I could find.  I found half of a large zucchini and used all of that instead.  My mom added some chinese cabbage leaves a...

Review: Kiddomo Universe at The Starling Mall

Image
Since I was busy chasing after my girl, I wasn't able to take a good picture of the place.  But here's the link on Facebook .   This fairly new place which is located at Level 3 of the Starling Mall has a new concept of playground for the kids.  It wasn't like Jungle Gym or the other indoor playground as everything about Kiddomo is about technology. However, I do find the prices a little too pricey although you can stay as long as you want in there, but RM55 on weekdays and RM65 on weekends for kids from 2 years and above, I think it is way too pricey. And parents/guardian is RM15 person.  FOC for kids below 2 years old and senior citizens. Perhaps if they give it free for the parents/guardian, it would have been much more worth it.  I don't know.  Probably not since parents and guardian also can play along.  That's the good side of Kiddomo.  That you can join your kids along and unlike the indoor playgrounds, not many parent...
