Review : Sekinchan 2017

On Christmas day, we decided to take a spontaneous trip to Sekinchan.  We have been living in Selangor all our lives, but never really explore that far part of Selangor.

The night before, on Christmas eve, we had attended an event and only slept at 1am.  Automatically woke up at 7am and then decided to go ahead with the Sekinchan trip.  I drove, so can you imagine how exhausted I was.  But since the family wanted to go, I thought why not.  It's not easy to have a time like this together.

I didn't take much photos, because I forgot.  But hey, you can find this photos anyway.  Sekinchan is just a very small fishing/paddy town.

It took us about 1 hour and 15 minutes from Petaling Jaya to Sekinchan.  I have been to Kuala Selangor before and I didn't know it is just further up from there.  I had always thought Sekinchan is somewhere near Morib since it's a seaside.  The drive was very easy and smooth on the LATAR highway, which is about 30 minutes.  Then once exit into Kuala Selangor town, there were a lot of single lanes and traffic lights, so the traffic was a bit heavy.

Once we were there, first place we went was Pantai Redang.  Don't expect this to be like Port Dickson because the sea is very far.  So, the beach side is where children fly kites and there were stalls selling fried omelette oysters.  Just next to this sea, is the temple where the make-a-wish tree is there.  Give a small donation and you will get this red cloth strips tied to a metal as a weight and you have to throw this up the tree.  If you manage to hook it up, then your wish will come true, it seems.

After this, we stopped by to buy some fresh fishes in one of the huts on the way out of Pantai Redang.  We also bought a fish to be cook for lunch later.

Now, which restaurant is good?  Basically, we don't know.  Since it is a public holiday, all the restaurants were full and people where just waiting for others to finish their food and so we can take their table and order instead.  So we just randomly selected 1 restaurant nearby since we desperately need to use the toilet.

I forgot the name of the restaurant that we went but the food there was so delicious.  But I was told by the fish seller, that all the restaurants are the same there.  Just the price may be a bit different as they don't write it down on menu.  And it seems the signature dish of Sekinchan is the deep fried small sotong and their chilli prawns.  So you can order this dish from any restaurant.  Our fish was stir-fried with some black bean sauce and it was so fresh and delicious.  Since we were really hungry by the time we arrived, I forgot to take any photos of the food.  My bad.

After this, we went to the paddy factory.

Here we bought some rice and rice products.

Then we were out of there and went back home.  We didn't go to Mango King and other places.  I was extremely exhausted but managed to drive back safely home.

Conclusion:
If you have some time to spare, then do take a drive down to Sekinchan as a day trip.  The seafood is cheap and delicious.  View wise, nothing much to see.  It can be crowded during public holidays.
