Review: Kiddomo Universe at The Starling Mall

Since I was busy chasing after my girl, I wasn't able to take a good picture of the place.  But here's the link on Facebook.

This fairly new place which is located at Level 3 of the Starling Mall has a new concept of playground for the kids.  It wasn't like Jungle Gym or the other indoor playground as everything about Kiddomo is about technology.

However, I do find the prices a little too pricey although you can stay as long as you want in there, but RM55 on weekdays and RM65 on weekends for kids from 2 years and above, I think it is way too pricey.

And parents/guardian is RM15 person.  FOC for kids below 2 years old and senior citizens.

Perhaps if they give it free for the parents/guardian, it would have been much more worth it.  I don't know.  Probably not since parents and guardian also can play along.  That's the good side of Kiddomo.  That you can join your kids along and unlike the indoor playgrounds, not many parents can follow along if you can't crawl or squat that low.

The Place
Upon registering, all paid participants will get a high-tech wrist band.  Orange for children and blue for the adults.

Upon entering, everyone must remove their shoes and place on the shoe rack.  Socks is a must!

First exploration area is The Selfie World.  This is where you create you own avatar and your face will be shown whenever your wrist band is being used.

On the left corner of The Selfie World is the Art Box where there are 4 big touch screens where your kids can be the painter and create their own masterpiece by just tapping on the screen and scrolling with your hands.  My girl who is FOC, enjoyed this a lot and was happily flipping her hands, though she has no idea what she was doing.  If you want to save your masterpiece, just tap your wrist band and it will save your work.

Next we were ushered to a dark room by the helpful staff and was introduced to an underwater world.  Here is where you can transform your art from a paper to life and it will appear on the screen upon scanning it.  Let me explain this further.

There will be postcard sizes art paper which already have an outline of the picture.  You can select a fish, seahorse and can't remember what's the other one.  You will have to colour with crayons which are readily available there and make sure you colour inside the line.  Upon finishing, scan it at a special scanner nearby.  Just need your wrist band to activate it.  Upon scanning, your picture will appear on wall where the underwater world is being projected and you can see your fish swimming among the other fishes and underwater creatures.  The kids has such an exciting time to see their masterpiece turned into moving 3D objects and was busy running after their own art.  Meanwhile, my girl was just busy scribbling paper after paper.

Next to this dark room is a cafe where parents can hang out while their kids play.

Beside the cafe is a big ball pit with slides and thousands and thousands of green and yellow plastic balls.  Here is the Dino World where you are supposed to look for Dino eggs and explore the species.  Finding a Dino egg among the small plastic balls is totally a workout.  Parents can join in as well.  However, my sister witnessed a boy spitting into the pit.  It made us cringe and wonder how they are going to clean this place.  Urgg....parents, please teach your kids proper manners.  Aside from that, the kids did have a great time here.  Up and down the slides, falling into the balls and not getting hurt and jumping into the pit, just like my girl did few times and she tried to do that at home too!!!

Further inside is another huge dark hall.  Here, the first thing that caught our eyes were the big giant balls that are lighted up with different colours.  Too bad I didn't take a good picture here.  Apparently when you touch the ball, it will change lights.  But the kids were just too busy running around, hiding behind the balls, just because it is big and like a big maze.  Beside this, there is a screen where you can play slice the balloons, which is imitation of the Ninja Fruit game.  But instead of using fingers, here you use your hands.  Another workout for me.  Then another screen where you can conduct an orchestra with your hands too!  Up the stairs is where you will find your way down 2 slides where patterns are projected on the slides as you slide down.  Like heart shape, stars or something like that.  Underneath the stairs is a karaoke room which was a hit for kids who loved to sing.  Here, you can select your favourite song, from Let It Go to Baby Shark and sing with a mic and your performance will be shown live on the TV outside.  Best part of the room it is sound proof.

The biggest part of the hall was a 2D to 3D art exploration.  It's the same as the Underwater World except, this is about transport.  Bus, rocket, hot-air balloon.  Colour it, scan it and then it will appear on the big wall moving about.  I mean, from paper it will come to life.  But an extra thing here is you can scan your wristband again at the printer nearby and get it printed into a 3D cut-out mold.  Yes, your bus from 2D became 3D.

Then there was another 2 smaller screens where you can use the wand to make some magic.

Coming out of the dark hall, just opposite the first dark room is an area for kids to hold their birthday party.  There are small tables and stools in it and a TV that plays all the kid's songs.  Next to this room is a Baby Gym.

The Good
The place is very clean and bright outside and security is very tight.  So you don't have to worry about your kids running out of the place.  Many helpful staff around.  The kids find all these very new and different from the usual indoor playground and enjoying with their friends.

The Bad
It can get boring after some time because it's just the same thing over and over again.  I mean, there's just this much you can do about colouring and give them life and then what?  And to look for Dino eggs, it can get tiring after some time especially if you can't find the egg.  And the price.

Conclusion:
This idea of using technology to create a playland is very interesting and new in the market.  But  I wish there was more things to keep me surprise.  I don't know what.  But I find the Underwater World and the Transport World is repetitive.  Perhaps they can do a bit more.  Nevertheless, the kids had a gala time, especially at the Ball Pit.  So what does it tell you?  Indoor playground which makes children move a lot is still the hit.
