Studying at Home

How's everyone doing?  In difficult times like now?  Hope everyone is staying safe, practising social distancing and all that.

My girl went to kindy for the first half of 2020 only.  Online classes didn't really work for her as I ended up doing a huge chunk of work.  Her kindy is not technologically update and her teachers were sending 3-5 minutes of video via WhatsApp.  In the end, I thought it's better not to pay the kindy fees and just let her stay at home while I continue with some online apps.

There are quite a few of pages that are free due to Covid.  I started my little girl with Reading Eggs and tried out their 30 days free trial and my girl loved it!  In fact, she learned so much more via Reading Eggs than her own kindy.

Straight away signed up for a year.  Only about RM250+ for a year.  Much worthy than kindy.

The app is not perfect.  Sometimes hang, sometimes lag.  But the materials is very comprehensive.  She learned her maths and phonics and english via this app.  

The only headache I have is mandarin and malay.  I just can't seem to get down to it.  And I couldn't find a similar app for mandarin.

Another great app is Khan Academy Kids.  It's a free app and though the materials are not as comprehensive as Reading Eggs, but my girl seems to enjoy it.  Not as structured as Reading Eggs.

It's a challenging time for many parents.  I have been absent from this blog for a long time.  Trying to teach her while working it's not easy at all.

The Big Kindy Search Continues

Since my last The Big Kindy Search post , I have been looking around for kindies and been visiting some.  Here's my feel about them all. 1) Tadika Diyana Read good reviews about this and decided to check them out, though out of our way and far from home.  I love how the price is quite ok but still a bit on the high side (you can check it out at their website). I visited the premise and I really love how it is run like a mini primary school.  It's huge, with its own hall, field and canteen, although downsize version and it's just like a school.  Not like a bungalow with rooms as classroom.   However, I have decided not to send my girl because they will be moving to Sungai Penchala (further up from TTDI, near to the Penchala Link), which will be much further from our home.  Though they do have transporters, but I feel very wary about sending my 4 year old (next year) to a transporter. PPUM Pediatrics Emergency Department

Being a mom proves to be the hardest job in the world.  Accidents do happen but when they actually happened, most people will panic and unsure what to do.  And when it involves kids, and being the mother of the only child, with no prior emergency experience, this is a traumatizing and frightening episode and a lesson for me to learn. My 3.5 years old girl was being very curious and naughty that fateful day.  She stood on the chair and play with my massage oil and containers and broke one of the small glass cups and when she panicked she came down from the chair and stepped on the broken glass. She was bleeding a lot and crying.  Since this happened at about 10.30pm, my first response was to drive her to a 24-hour clinic.  So, we went to the 24-hour Mediviron clinic but was turned away by the nurses, stating that her case is very serious and need to be referred to a hospital instead.
