Travelling with a 1 year old

We just came back from a local religious seminar and we brought along our 1 year old.  It was the first for us and here's what I noticed was different compared to when we went to a seminar without kids years ago.

1. The place where we stayed and the place where the seminar was held and also the place for meals were 10 minutes walk.

- It's good to walk but when you have a 1 year old, you would want to carry him/her while walking and that is no joke to walk for 10 minutes with a 9kg toddler in hand.  Good muscle workout.  I do have a carrier, but it is too hassle to wear and take out and no place to keep. And we didn't bring a stroller.

2. Most of the time, we have to wait for transport, people with cars or the bus.

- If we knew beforehand that transport is going to be a problem at the seminar place, we would have driven there and not take the bus instead. It was more convenient with a car but parking maybe a problem. Anyway, with a toddler in hand, probably places like this better to drive.

3. This place is not kid's friendly.  No baby changing room, no nursing room.  Public toilets are without bidet.

- Yes, this resort is old and the person who constructed it didn't cater for the Malay nor Indian guests nor guests with kids. To wash a toddler over the sink is a challenge.  Pants diaper is the way to go.  Otherwise, only can wipe down the kid and change in the hall.

4. Kids can't adjust to our adults timetable.

- It was buffet meals, where food was served at a certain hour only.  But our girl decided to take a nap during that time. So how? Have to take turns to eat and it's a distance. And can't walk if it rains.  And have to pack for her. So first time for me stealing buffet food.

Because I was rushing to go to the seminar, I left the last minute packing to the husband.  He of course didn't pack what I didn't tell him.  I want to learn from this mistake and moving on to our first overseas trip in October, hopefully will be better.

i) Fever medicine - one of our oversea friend with a toddler had high fever and if I have the medicine  could have given the boy in liquid form rather than crushed from a pill.

ii) Umbrella - good for walking whether rain or shine

iii) Diaper cream - her bum was red from the diaper and we didn't have any diaper cream or coconut oil.

iv) Spoon - we remembered to bring the Thermos container for food but forgot the spoon.  So have to borrow a spoon from the resort.

v) A portable battery operated mini fan - super useful for places where it is very, very hot.

Things that I was glad I brought along.

A) A Thermos food container
B) Bread or buns for the journey and in case she is hungry before meal times during the seminar
C) Anti - bugs cream
D) Sweater for her
E) An empty plastic container to keep any food

I think that's all I can think off for now.
