Review : Sky Mirror at Sasaran Beach, Kuala Selangor

The above photo doesn't really reflect what Sky Mirror is all about because the weather was not that good when we were there.  Basically, Sky Mirror as it is named is the mirror like reflection between the sky and earth.  By right, the reflection should be really nice on a sunny day.

So, on 1/1/18, since it was a public holiday for all of us, we decided to go as a family to this place.  We were informed to be by the Kuala Selangor jetty at 7am in the morning.  I have been asking the person-in-charge what time to meet but he has been slow in responding and I didn't know why.  Now I know.  It's because only a certain time on a certain day, you can see the reflection properly.  Provided it doesn't rain, that is.

When we left on the speed boat, it started to drizzle.  We were hoping the rain will clear up, but God has decided.

From PJ to Kuala Selangor, the journey is about 1 hour.  We left at about 5.45am and reached at 6.45am.  The jetty was quiet with just a few cars.  The toilet was very clean.  Soon, the crowd comes in, more cars and a tour bus.  When the counter opens, I went to check my booking and found that the person-in-charge has forgotten to pass my information to the counter.  But very quickly that was resolved.

At 7.45am, we were told to gather at the front of the counter where plastic chairs were provided.  There a roll call was done and we were informed who's who in the boat.  Surprisingly, my family was in the first boat.

By 8am, we left the jetty on the speed boat with a guide.  The guide explained the rules and regulations that we have to follow, say cannot litter on the island and on the boat, cannot take any of the shells or the crabs or any tiny living things from the island back and things like that.  The boat ride was so exhilarating especially when we went over the waves.  The kids were a bit scared and just stayed still the whole time.  The boat ride was about 30 minutes and we arrived at this island which is like in the middle of nowhere and on a no man's land.  This is the Sky Mirror.

The rain continued to fall from drizzle to bigger drops but still God was kind and didn't let it turn into a thunderstorm.  Soon many boats arrived.  The tiny island was occupied with more people.  A lot of them ran to find the perfect spot to take the perfect photo, which is the whole purpose of the Sky Mirror.

We were given raincoats and were told to remove our shoes.  The staff were very professional and efficient and helped us to find the spot and also helped us to take the photos with our phones.

Since it was raining, we were worried that the kids will get wet and get sick later and that our phones and cameras will get wet, etc.  One boatman suggested that my parents to bring the kids back on the boat and wait since it was raining but the sea was a little rough and the boat was bouncing left and right and giving them seasickness that my parents gave up and went back on land with a big umbrella.

At first my girl was fine with the sand.  But when my husband showed her tiny crabs moving about on the sand, she got scared and refused to step foot.  But after some time, my husband convinced her again that it is ok and next we know, she can't be stopped.  She was running up and down, in the rain, so happy and dancing and singing.  We gave her a cap but her clothes were soiled with sand and wet with rain water and sea water combined.

This tiny island is just a sandy beach where you can't find a single tree.  Just bare land with millions of tiny creatures moving on the beach.  I wondered how many we killed that day by our feet.  The island is by only sea creatures, tiny ones.  We saw millions of tiny crabs, like 1cm big, crawling all over the beach.  Not only that, creatures in sharp shells and all kinds of living sea creatures, the tiny shell ones I mean.

Oh did I mentioned that the guide also told us that there were dolphins following our boat?  And they only come out during rainy days?  I spotted one from far.  But couldn't take a picture because it was really far.

We were given 1.5-2 hours on the Sasaran Beach.  Since it was raining the whole time, we couldn't get the perfect reflection photo which was a little disappointing but we can't blame the guides or the organizers as this is not something someone would have expected.

Instead of blue skies, we see only grey and dark clouds.  But it was still fun, be with nature, wide spaces, you can do whatever you want, jump, dance, sing, in the rain some more.  I think it is an experience not to be missed.

Soon, boats began to leave and our guide gathered our boat mates and we soon left.  Another 30 minutes back to the jetty.  Snacks were provided and nasi lemak and water too.

The whole journey is about 4 hours.  For half day tour, which is the one we took, it's RM80 per Malaysian adult and RM60 per Malaysian kid and RM100 per foreigner adult and RM80 per foreigner kid.

The organizers also have 1 day tour and 2 days 1 night tour.  Do check it out!
